Image Libraries
Stony Brook provides two primary image sources for website editors:
-
The University Image Library (official photography)
-
The CMS Image Library (pre-sized, ready-to-use images for templates and components) *
*we will continually be adding to the library
Understanding when to use each will help maintain brand consistency and ensure images
display correctly.
University Image Library (assets.stonybrook.edu)
The official university image library is available at:
This library contains approved university photography that reflects Stony Brook’s brand standards.
Use this library when you need:
-
Official campus photography
-
Academic, research, or student-life imagery
-
Images for major landing pages
-
Brand-aligned visuals
Images in this library may require resizing or cropping before uploading into the CMS.
Some images may require a request or approval process depending on usage.
CMS Image Library (_images-library)
Within Modern Campus CMS, we maintain a shared folder:
_images-library
This folder contains:
-
Pre-sized images for components
-
Background images formatted for templates
-
Images optimized for specific snippets
-
Visual sets designed for consistent page layouts
These images are already formatted for use within the new templates.
Use this library when:
-
You are adding a background image to a component
-
You need properly sized images for card layouts
-
You want to avoid resizing or cropping manually
-
You are building pages quickly and need template-ready visuals
We will continue adding new image sets to this folder over time.
Important Guidelines
-
Do not rename or move images within the shared _images-library folder.
-
If you need a variation (different crop or size), upload a copy into your department’s folder.
-
Always publish images after adding them to a page.
-
Use descriptive filenames when uploading your own images.
