Subject: SBU Website Update: Redesign, Accessible Templates & Transition Hub
Dear Modern Campus CMS website editors,
We previously communicated that new ADA Title II regulations require all state and local government entities,
including public universities, to make their websites and mobile apps compliant with
WCAG 2.2 AA standards by April 24, 2026. This means all digital content, including
websites, documents, videos, and third-party tools, must be accessible to individuals
with disabilities.
As part of that requirement, we’re excited to share that the new homepage and about forty secondary pages–including About, Admissions, and Research overviews–have officially launched. These pages feature fully accessible templates,
an updated brand look, and modern functionality. This milestone marks the first major
step in our comprehensive website redesign project, aimed at delivering a more dynamic,
WCAG 2.2 AA-compliant, and user-focused digital experience for the Stony Brook community.
What Comes Next
This work has now laid the foundation for the university-wide rollout of fully accessible
department page templates, which remain on track for delivery to Modern Campus CMS
web editors by February 2026.
Immediately following that rollout, academic and administrative departments will need
to migrate their sites into the new templates, with training and review processes
coordinated through our Marketing and Communications Digital & Social Media Services
team. All sites should complete their migration by the Title II regulation deadline
of April 24, 2026.
Stay Informed
While MARCOM will offer guidance and support, each department is ultimately responsible
for migrating their own sites and ensuring all content meets accessibility standards
by April 24, 2026. Our new Website Transition Hub can serve as your central resource for the migration, where you’ll find:
-
The project timeline
-
Step-by-step editor guides and accessibility resources
-
Lists of what to do now and what to expect
-
Answers to frequently asked questions
It will be continually updated as the project progresses and documentation is created.
A Herculean Effort
These new pages represent a significant achievement by the Digital & Social Media
Services team within Marketing and Communications. Their vision, skill, and relentless
dedication brought these new templates and pages to life from strategy and design
to development, testing, and launch, with much more to come.
We also extend our gratitude to our freelance partners, supported in part by PFUI
and the Senior Executive Team (SET), whose expertise continues to help us reach our
goals and move this important work forward.
Thank you for your continued partnership and shared commitment to elevating how the
world experiences Stony Brook online as we move into this next phase of the project.
Sincerely,
Susan Foley
