Project Goals

Stony Brook University will design and implement an enterprise wide, cloud-based ecosystem at SBU, supported by Oracle, to include several modules: Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) which includes areas such as accounting, general ledger, fixed assets and revenue management, Enterprise Data Management (EDM), Enterprise Performance Management (EPM), and Human Capital Management (HCM). Upon completion of this project, we aim to realize these goals:

1. Migrate enterprise data from numerous legacy systems into a single, cloud-based software application that will support operational, financial and reporting needs

2. Continue to support SBU’s transition to an All Funds budget model.

3. Enable more accurate analysis of financial positioning, predictive modeling, and forecasting for future strategic priorities.

4. Identify inconsistent, non-standardized processes and drive alignment, or redesign, of SBU’s financial and business practices to be more modern and standardized.

Benefits and Outcomes

The implementation of contemporary, cloud-based ERP systems offers many compelling advantages to Stony Brook, including but not limited to the following:

      • Integrated information systems, that work together in real-time, provide accurate financial and operational data that increases transparency, standardizes and speeds-up processes, and enhances planning and forecasting efforts
      • Comprehensive overview of all functional areas in one place, ultimately aiding in more thorough decision-making as well as managing from a holistic vantage point rather than a siloed view
      • Powerful reporting and analytics tools
      • Increased data integrity, validity and reliability
      • Simpler, more intuitive, modern user experiences that are consistent across devices and mobile friendly
      • Increased automation and self-service processes
      • Enhanced data governance
      • Increased scalability
      • Streamlined and more efficient transaction processing
      • Mitigation of risk that comes with aging systems that are more rigid and error-prone
      • Enhanced security
      • Improved business continuity and disaster recovery
      • Gradual reduction and eventual elimination of on-premise (i.e., campus-based) systems that are costly to maintain and replace in terms of both hardware and human resources costs, and that take up valuable campus space
      • Reduced effort to maintain customizations
      • Continued support for Finance, Human Resources, and budget planning in the way of regulatory and compliance updates as well as technical support for the platform itself
