Directions to Campus
By Car
From New York City, take the Long Island Expressway (LIE, I-495) eastbound from the Queens Midtown Tunnel in Manhattan or the Throgs Neck Bridge or Whitestone Bridge in Queens to exit 62, and follow Nicolls Road (Route 97) north for 9 miles. The main entrance to the University is on the left.
By Train
The most convenient way to travel by train is by taking the Long Island Railroad (LIRR)'s Port Jefferson line from Penn Station in Manhattan to Stony Brook. Trains to and from Penn Station generally require transfers at Jamaica, Huntington, or sometimes Hicksville.
By Ferry
Ferries cross the Long Island Sound from Bridgeport, Connecticut, to Port Jefferson seven days a week at varying times. Passengers may purchase either passenger tickets or vehicle tickets (each passenger in the vehicle requires a separate ticket). Once on land, take Route 25A west to Nicolls Road and turn left onto Nicolls Road. The University entrances are located at the first three intersections you will reach.
From New London, Connecticut, to Orient Point, Long Island: Take Route 25A west to Nicolls Road and proceed as described above.
By Plane
Long Island's Islip-MacArthur Airport is 16 miles from the campus and is serviced by direct flights by major airlines and commuter lines.
Stony Brook University is approximately 50 miles east of New York City–area airports: John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), LaGuardia Airport (LGA), and Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR).
Parking Information
Visitor paid parking is available in the Administration Garage or Lot 19, a short walk from the Light Engineering Building.
