Welcome to Stony Brook University Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy (BSRT) Program. Respiratory therapists are highly-skilled healthcare practitioners who treat patients with breathing difficulties caused by respiratory and cardiovascular issues. They work with patients of all ages, from newborns to the elderly, and have diverse career opportunities in education, management, therapy, and sales.
This program's multicompetent education and over 1,000 hours of clinical experience will provide you with the knowledge, skills, professionalism and hands-on experience that will help you begin your career in the respiratory therapy field. Our graduates are employed as respiratory therapists in hospitals working in units such as burn, cardiovascular, emergency room, medical, neonatal, pediatric and surgical. They are also employed in cardiovascular technology, rehabilitation facilities, pulmonary diagnostics, skilled nursing homes and sleep study laboratories.

If you are a student at another college or university and are interested in our program, check with your pre-health advisor regarding the best way for you to meet Stony Brook’s prerequisites through the courses offered at your school. Also we strongly recommend attending a Respiratory Care Information Session. For information about the Information Session, please click here.
Once your application is submitted and processed, you will receive an email with your login to the StartSBU portal.
If you would like to be considered for more than one program, such as both the Respiratory Care program and Health Science major, you will be able to indicate this on your supplemental application but will only be able to choose one on your initial application.
