Joint Admissions Programs

Our Joint Admissions Programs with Nassau Community College and Suffolk County Community College provide students with an attractive and convenient alternative path to earning a degree from Stony Brook University.

To take advantage of the unique opportunity provided by our Joint Admissions Programs with Nassau Community College and Suffolk County Community College:

  1. Apply for and be admitted to an Associate in Arts (AA) or Associate in Science (AS) degree program at Nassau or Suffolk Community College. Note: Those enrolled in Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree programs are not eligible for participation in the Joint Admissions Programs.
  2. Indicate on your application for admission to Nassau or Suffolk Community College your intention to enroll in the Joint Admissions Program or visit the Office of Admissions at Nassau or Suffolk Community College to formally enroll in the Joint Admissions Program. Students are able to enroll prior to the completion of 24 college credits for most majors except for Computer Science, Information Systems, and Engineering. Students must declare and be accepted into Suffolk or Nassau's Computer Science, Information Systems, and/or Engineering major as a first time matriculated freshman to be eligible.  Note: Students on visas may be eligible for participation in the Joint Admissions Program; eligible students will be notified by the admissions office.
  3. Meet with Stony Brook University transfer advisors when they visit your community college each semester to ensure a smooth transition to Stony Brook University. During your final semester, submit an Intent to Enroll form.
  4. Complete your Associate in Arts (AA) or Associate in Science (AS) degree program at Nassau or Suffolk Community College with a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher. Additional admission requirements must be met for several majors as noted below.
  5. Enter Stony Brook University as a junior to complete your baccalaureate degree.

*BUSINESS MANAGEMENT: Students who receive an AA degree in Liberal Arts, an AS degree in Business Administration, or an AS degree in Accounting with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher will be guaranteed admission to Stony Brook’s Business Management major. Suggested courses: Microeconomics, Introduction to Business and Calculus for Non Science Majors.

**COMPUTER SCIENCE: Students who receive an AS degree in Computer Science by June 1 with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher and receive grades of “B” or higher in required courses evaluated as equivalent to MAT 131, MAT 132, CSE 114, CSE 214, and CSE 215 at Stony Brook, with an average of 3.2 or higher in the CSE equivalents, will be guaranteed admission into the Computer Science major. Additionally, courses used for the major may not be repeated. Fall admission only.

***ENGINEERING: Only available through Suffolk County Community College joint admissions programsStudents who receive an AS degree in Engineering Science by June 1 with a cumulative average of 3.2 or higher and receive grades of “B” or higher in majors courses, including calculus and physics, will be guaranteed admission into Stony Brook’s Computer Engineering major, Electrical Engineering major, Engineering Science major, or the Mechanical Engineering major. Additionally, courses used for the major may not be repeated.  Fall admission only.

****HEALTH SCIENCE: For now, this is only available through Suffolk County Community College joint admissions programs. Students who complete an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.8 and earn grades of C or higher in Anatomy & Physiology I and II, equivalent to HAN 200 and HAN 202 at Stony Brook, will be guaranteed admission to the major in Health Science. Upon matriculation, students must complete the Health Science major declaration workshop/survey, within their first semester at Stony Brook University.

We also have a partnership with SUNY Morrisville through the International Pathway Program (IPP), which is a starting point toward your academic career in SUNY.  SUNY Morrisville’s IPP offers students enhanced academic success and personal advisement to help students reach their academic goals during the first year of their undergraduate degree. The Joint Admissions Program stipulates that upon admission to IPP at SUNY Morrisville, students are guaranteed admission into the College of Arts and Sciences at Stony Brook University, provided they have completed at least one semester at SUNY Morrisville with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.8 and COMP 101 (Composition and Research) or COMM 105 (Research and Communication) with a minimum grade of "C."  The College of Business requires a 3.0-3.2 cumulative grade point average.

These agreements ensure that credits earned at the originating institution are recognized and transferred seamlessly to Stony Brook University.
