ADOPTION OR FOSTER CARE PLACEMENT

FMLA covers the legal placement of a child with the employee for adoption or foster care and to bond with their newly placed child.

BLOOD DONATION LEAVE

With supervisory approval, employees are entitled to take up to four (4) hours of paid leave per calendar year without charge to leave credits for blood donation.

BONE MARROW LEAVE

With supervisory approval, eligible State employees are entitled to take up to seven (7) days paid leave to undergo a medical procedure to donate bone marrow.

CANCER SCREENING LEAVE

With supervisory approval, employees are entitled to take up to four (4) hours total (not per screening) of paid leave without charge to leave credits annually for the screening of all cancers.

EXPRESSING BREAST MILK IN THE WORKPLACE

Nursing mothers returning to work are entitled to take unpaid leave for the purpose of expressing breast milk.

FAMILY & MEDICAL LEAVE ACT (FMLA)

Entitles eligible employees to take up to a total of 12 work weeks (26 weeks for military caregiver leave) of unpaid, job-protected leave during a 12-month period for specified family & medical reasonswith continuation of group health insurance coverage.

JURY DUTY

An employee who is required to appear for jury duty or as a subpoenaed or otherwise ordered witness in court, is entitled to leave with pay without charge to leave credits if they are NOT a party to the action.

LEAVE DONATION PROGRAM

The intent of the Leave Donation Program is to provide a means to assist employees who, because of a long term personal illness, have exhausted their leave benefits and would otherwise be subject to a loss of income during a continuing absence from work.

Leave for child care is available generally without pay and will be granted to either parent.

MILITARY LEAVE

NY Military Law provides 30 calendar days or 22 workdays of paid leave per calendar year for employees activated for military service.

ORGAN DONOR LEAVE

Up to thirty (30) days paid leave to serve as an organ donor.  An employee is required to give at least 14 days prior written notice, unless there is a medical emergency attested to by a physician.

PAID PARENTAL LEAVE (PPL)

PPL provides eligible M/C, UUP, CSEA and PEF employees up to 12 weeks of paid leave for each qualifying event, defined as the birth of a child or placement of a child for adoption or foster care.

PREGNANCY AS TEMPORARY MEDICAL DISABILITY

NYS defines the period of disability for a pregnancy as up to four (4) weeks before the anticipated date of delivery,through six (6) or eight (8) weeks after delivery (eight (8) weeks after a cesarean section).

SICK (ADDITIONAL) LEAVE AT HALF PAY

Eligible employees absent due to a personal illness may request sick leave at half pay when they have exhausted all of their leave accruals.

VOTER'S LEAVE LAW

NYS amended the Election Law (April 2020, Chapter 56, Laws of 2020) to allow employees to take up to two (2) hours of paidleave to vote in any election in NYS when the employee does not have sufficient time to vote before or after their work shift.
