FAMILY AND MEDICAL LEAVE ACT (FMLA)

Family and Medical Leave Act

The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) entitles eligible employees to take up to a total of 12 work weeks (26 weeks for military caregiver leave) of unpaid, job-protected leave during a 12-month period for specified family and medical reasons with continuation of group health insurance coverage. If available, appropriate leave accruals may be used to remain in a paid status during disability period.

ELIGIBILITY:

Must be employed by the State for at least one (1) year, have worked at least 1250 hours over the previous 12 months and be an FMLA qualifying reason for medical leave.

NEXT STEPS:

If you know in advance that you will need FMLA leave, you must give 30-days' advance notice. If it is not possible to give 30-days' notice, you must notify your supervisor as soon as possible. You also need to comply with your normal call-in procedure until FMLA is approved.
