Yongjun Zhang

Biography:
Dr. Yongjun Zhang joined Stony Brook University in 2020 as an Assistant Professor
in the Institute for Advanced Computational Science and the Department of Sociology.
He earned his Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Arizona.
Dr. Zhang is a computational and quantitative sociologist whose research focuses on
politics, organizations, networks, and inequality. His current work integrates statistical,
network, and computational methods with big data sources—including large-scale GPS
data, administrative records (e.g., FEC records, voter files, and consumer profiles),
and social media platforms (e.g., billions of tweets and millions of YouTube videos)—to
examine mobility, segregation, and polarization in the U.S. and globally. His research
has been featured in leading journals, including American Journal of Sociology and
Demography.
