OpScan Scanning & Scoring

To reduce the burden of grading on SB faculty, CELT's OpScan Office provides test-scanning services for multiple-choice exams and tests using bubble sheets for any course offered through the Registrar on East or West Campus.

Hours of Operation

Monday through Friday: 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.

Exams can be dropped off using the SECURE DROP BOX located on the wall next to the Opscan office door, anytime the Main Library SINC Site is opened.

Procedures

Submit exams in an envelope(s).  Use as many envelopes as necessary in order not to damage, bend or tear exams. Each envelope should be numbered (1 o f 2, 2 o f 2, etc).  The drop off envelope should include ONLY the instructor’s name, department/building, and 4-digit department zip code.

The following should be included in the envelope with drop off:

  • OpScan Request Form for Grading. Only one form is needed for each class.
  • Answer key(s)
  • Student test forms (bubble sheets)
    • Note: all test forms should face the same direction

There is no in person pick up.   Exams will be mailed back to instructor. > Instructors will be notified by email when the exam has been processed.

Turnaround time is 48 hrs during normal workdays.  This time may vary depending on midterms and finals.

**New for Fall 2023: Scantron forms now allow faculty to add grade totals for essay or short answer questions, by using the two columns labeled "NON OBJ." Test scanning results will automatically add students' multiple choice points to the faculty reported essay/short answer points (labeled non-objective grade points in Digital Desk) for a total grade. The image below highlights where to find this feature on the new Scantron forms.

Digital Desk

Our test scanning software, Digital Desk, includes an online instructor portal where instructors can view their students digitally captured bubble sheets online. It also features quick and easy transfer of students grades!
