Personal Information
All current and former students can make changes to their legal name, gender, date of birth or other demographic information by either submitting the appropriate forms or within SOLAR. Former students will always retain access to SOLAR, even after graduating or withdrawing.
Address Changes
Address changes (home and/or mailing) can be made in SOLAR. On campus housing changes must be made through the appropriate Campus Residence quad office. International students must additionally report any changes to the Visa and Immigration Services Office.
Degree candidates will be prompted to confirm their diploma mailing address at the time of applying for graduation. Once the application to graduate has been submitted, any changes to the diploma mailing address must be handled by the Registrar's Office and can only be changed up until the diploma has been ordered.
Name Changes
If needed, students may request to update their legal name on university records with the proper required documentation.
- Updated government-issued ID (driver’s license, passport, or state ID)
- Divorce/Marriage Certificate
- Court Action
- I -20
- Social Security Card
- Professional License
Submit the Name Change Form through the Registrar’s Office and attach the required documentation.
Processing - The Office of the Registrar reviews the request and updates the student record. Students are notified once the change has been processed.
*Please note that if applying for federal financial aid, a Social Security Card must be provided that reflects the name to be used.
Key points about preferred names:
- Preferred names do not replace the legal name in official records where the legal name is required by law or policy.
- The legal name remains unchanged in academic and administrative systems unless a legal name change form and documentation are submitted.
- A preferred name must consist of alphabetic characters and cannot include symbols or special characters.
- The University may remove a preferred name if it is used inappropriately.
