Additional Sick Leave (Presidential Leave)
Faculty/Professional UUP Employees
• Additional Sick Leave is discretionary and requires the University President's approval.
• Sick leave accruals must be exhausted before being eligible for Additional Sick leave. Supervisors may suggest that employees use some vacation and/or holiday accruals.
• Additional Sick Leave may be granted by the President at full pay, partial pay or
without pay.
How to Apply
EMPLOYEE
- Employees must provide a written request to their Supervisor/Department Head/Chair or Dean.
- Employees must submit Satisfactory Medical Documentation* directly to HR either by email at hrs_timeatt@stonybrook.edu or fax to 631-632-4989. NEVER attach medical documentation to a Peoplesoft Change Form or send to your supervisor/department.
- Employees will receive written confirmation from the President on the status of their leave.
Application Flow
DEPARTMENT
Departments must forward
(1) The employee's written request
(2) The department's recommendation approving leave — at full, partial or without pay — to their VP Area**
VP AREA**
VP Area must forward the above items, plus VP's Recommendation to Human Resources.
HR will review the documentation and forward the request to the President for final decision.
* Medical Documentation can be marked confidential and submitted directly to hrs_timeatt@stonybrook.edu.
**VP Area Note:
For Hospital Employees, VP Recommendation not needed, packages sent to Human Resources — Tech Park.
For Health Sciences Faculty-packages are not sent to HR — Instead, they are reviewed in HSC VP/Dean's area.
