Stony Awards Nominations
President’s Stony Brook Champion Award
Description:
- Annually recognizes one or more employees nominated by faculty, staff or administration for outstanding service in helping Stony Brook University further its mission and advance strategic goals and core values (Statement of Community).
Criteria:
- Individuals are eligible to receive this award based on their nomination for any of the Stony Awards below.
- Nominations must include evidence to support individuals’ commitment to Stony Brook
University, our mission and strategic goals.
President’s Award for Nurturing a Welcoming, Inclusive Campus Culture
- The President, in collaboration with the Office of DI3, will annually recognize an employee nominated by faculty, staff or administration for demonstrating exceptional commitment to promoting and advancing the University’s core values of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.
- Each candidate for the President's Award for Nurturing a Welcoming, Inclusive Campus Culture must receive a minimum of four nominations by the deadline to be eligible for the award.
Criteria:
- Nominations must include evidence to support individuals’ commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging at Stony Brook University.
President’s Award for Excellence in Patient Service
Description
- Honors one or more employees who exemplify extraordinary human compassion and outstanding patient service.
- Recipients are selected based on complimentary letters sent by patients throughout the year.
Criteria:
- Letters submitted should address individuals’ commitment to providing excellent health
care and support to patients.
Excellence in Leadership Award
- Recognizes all employees who serve as managers or supervisors for outstanding leadership in their roles in service to the University.
- Recognizes an employee who lives the University’s mission and is a role model who embodies all of our core values (Statement of Community).
Criteria:
- Nominations must include evidence to support this individual’s commitment to the University and to providing excellent leadership.
- Must include examples of what makes this person an excellent leader in enhancing the
operational activities of their area as well as supporting their employees’ growth.
Community Award
- Honors one or more employees involved in our community, both on and off campus, who:
- impact the lives of others who teach, work and learn at Stony Brook University and
- through their own actions, inspire others to make a difference.
Criteria:
- Nominations must include evidence to support individuals’ contributions, on and-off campus.
- Evidence demonstrating how nominated individuals support their co-workers, faculty
members and (potential) students at Stony Brook.
SB YOU Award
Description:
- Celebrates University employees who exemplify or inspire the positive behaviors and beliefs that embody the mission and values (Statement of Community) of Stony Brook.
- Award recipients are characterized by an extraordinary generosity – giving their time and abilities to go above and beyond general job requirements in support of the University’s mission, as evidenced by their interactions with colleagues, students and community members.
- They exemplify SBU’s five pillars, as outlined in the University’s strategic plan: Innovation, Community, Equity, Excellence and Collaboration. Good examples include:
- Interdisciplinary work on campus.
- The impact of their work, both on and off campus.
Criteria:

- Nominations must include evidence to support how this person or team has supported the community by collaborating with co-workers, faculty members and (potential) students at Stony Brook.
