Hong Zhang ’91 and Liya Liang ’94, distinguished alumni of Stony Brook University’s Materials Science and Engineering program, have combined entrepreneurial success with a deep commitment to giving back.
After moving from Beijing nearly three decades ago, Zhang and Liang found support and opportunity at Stony Brook that helped shape their personal and professional journeys. In gratitude, they have contributed more than $400,000 to the university, including a $300,000 gift to establish the Liya Liang ’94 and Hong Zhang ’91 Endowed Faculty Fellowship in Materials Science within the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences.
Their philanthropy reflects the same spirit of innovation that guided their careers. Together, they built a successful business serving global technology leaders such as Google, Apple, Applied Materials, Lam Research, and Avago.
Through their generosity, Zhang and Liang are helping strengthen Stony Brook’s research excellence and support future generations of students and faculty in Materials Science and Engineering.
