Mark your calendars—our Employee Appreciation Day event is less than 2 weeks away! This is our chance to recognize and celebrate the dedication, hard work and contributions that each of you brings to SBU, every day. From appreciation swag to gratitude grams to raffles, get ready to feel appreciated, motivated and proud to be part of the SBU family. We cannot wait to celebrate YOU! Stay tuned for more details about the event in the coming days, but for now, mark your calendars for March 27, from 11a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Library Lobby Cafe (Employees only).
★ SOME HISTORY
Employee Appreciation Day, always observed on the first Friday in March, was created by Bob Nelson, an authority on employee engagement, in 1995. It coincided with the publication of his book 1,001 Ways to Reward Employees.
Stony Brook has hosted Employee Appreciation events in March, including last year’s Stony Roadshow that highlighted the HR Now Initiative.
★ OUR NEW CULTURE & ENGAGEMENT UNIT
We welcomed our very first Culture & Engagement Coordinator position in July of 2024. This position resides within Healthier U, reporting to the Director of Healthier U.
As we begin efforts to build out a robust Culture, Wellness & Engagement platform for the campus, it is our great pleasure to host this event to show appreciation for employees, to promote the upcoming Be Heard employee engagement survey and to share HR resources with employees. And to bring some fun!

From appreciation swag to gratitude grams to raffles, get ready to feel appreciated, motivated, & proud to be part of the SBU family. Employees will also have a chance to mingle, receive giveaways, participate in appreciation activities, wellness activities, and raffle drawings.
