Lawrence Martin is a paleoprimatologist whose research focused on the evolution of hominoid primates and the development, structure and thickness of primate dental enamel. He has conducted paleontological fieldwork at Miocene sites in Cameroon, Kenya, Pakistan and Turkey. He moved into university administration in 1993 and has served as Director of the Turkana Basin Institute since 2007.

Fred Grine is a hominin paleontologist who has worked on fossils in East Africa as well as South Africa. His principal interests relate to resolving the evolutionary relationships of Plio-Pleistocene hominin taxa, and the reconstruction of their diets.
