Joan Barry McCormick is a seasoned advancement leader with 30+ years of experience
raising funds for healthcare and higher education institutions. McCormick has built
high-performing teams; created robust donor pipelines; closed major, principal, and
planned gifts from high-net-worth individuals; led the planning, preparation, and
execution for comprehensive fundraising campaigns; reinvigorated boards; and supported
administrative leaders in the achievement of their funding priorities. McCormick’s
approach to fundraising is donor-centric. She takes pride in getting to know donors
well and identifying the fit between a donor’s passion and the institution’s needs.
McCormick has served in fundraising leadership roles at The City University of New York, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Pratt Institute, NYU, Rutgers University, and Saint Peter’s Healthcare System. She has worked on fundraising campaigns ranging from $5 million to $1 billion.
McCormick earned a B.A. in Journalism/Mass Media from Rutgers University and a Master of Public Administration from Kean University. She also has a Mini MBA in Strategic Healthcare Management from Rutgers, a program that she helped to design and implement. McCormick has taught at Essex County College, Kean University, and Rutgers University. She has made presentations at advancement conferences and led fundraising workshops for several non-profit organizations.
