Stony Brook Manhattan Center

Workshops in the heart of the city.

On 8th Ave & 37th St, the Manhattan Center for Creative Writing & Film is ideally situated for people on the go. And its courses are perfectly suited for writers who have something to say.

A loft-like commercial space in the Garment District, the bright, open locale is shared with the Lichtenstein Center’s MFA in Film and TV Writing fostering a vibrant hub of creativity.

Just as important is what's outside.

New York City has long captivated writers. From the pulsing streets of Manhattan to the thriving art scene across Brooklyn, everywhere you look, there’s a story.

Hit the galleries to the south in Chelsea or the off-Broadway shows to the north and find invigorating art and theater. Catch readings and signings by acclaimed authors across the city. It’s all at your fingertips.

A Place to Workshop

Imagine yourself in one of our classrooms.  You're workshopping your newest piece. You're digging into the language, learning its strengths and weaknesses. Your classmates are asking questions that you hadn't even thought about.  Your professor believes it’s got legs. And you’re already deep in notes for the next draft.

These spaces are designed to encourage a supportive and focused environment, making them ideal for intimate workshops where you can share ideas and build connnections that will last beyond your MFA years.

A Place for Meeting

Whether you're just getting out of class or you got here early, our flexible meeting area is a spot to hang out, finish writing, or catch a reading.

With movable furniture and adjustable seating, the space can be easily transformed to suit different group sizes and activities from Writers Speak to our semesterly Micro Writers’ Retreats.

Large glass walls and warm wood floors, create a welcoming environment for creativity and collaboration.

By combining this urban creative experience with occasional coursework on the Stony Brook Southampton campus (minimum of four credits required), the graduate students at the Center get the best of both worlds.
