Address Problems Using Critical Analysis and the Methods of the Humanities (HUM)
The discipline of humanities has traditionally included the fields of the Arts, English, History, Literature, Philosophy, and Religious Studies. Today the academic disciplines in the humanities have been broadened to include Africana Studies, Asian and Asian-American Studies, Cinema and Cultural Studies,
European Languages, Literatures, and Cultures,
and Women’s and Gender Studies. Through analytical, critical, or speculative means, the humanities study the history of the human condition and of human thought and values and consider the ways in which those ideas have shaped, and will shape, our communities. Through this examination, humanities courses broaden our understanding and foster an appreciation of the cultures of the world in which we live. As the world becomes ever more interconnected, and as cultures become ever more in contact, the study of the humanities offers an opportunity to train the broadminded and informed global citizen.
