Biochemistry and Cell Biology MS Program Description

The Department of Biochemistry and Cell Biology offers a graduate program for the Master of Science degree. This ~1.5 year MS program is designed to prepare students for careers in research, teaching, biotechnology, or further advanced studies in health and life sciences. Our pool of faculty represents diverse research interests spanning biochemistry, genetics, cell, molecular, and structural biology.

To document our success, here are some numbers. In the fourteen years since its inception,  94% of our admitted students graduated, usually within three semesters. Of these graduates, ~40%  were admitted to a Ph.D., MD or DDS program, or obtained employment as researchers in academic or biotech laboratories. These students went on to do their Ph.D. in excellent institutions, including Stony Brook, Johns Hopkins, Cornell, Einstein, and Mt. Sinai, Imperial College (London) to name just a few. Employment opportunities were equally impressive; ~42% of our students obtained research positions at pharmaceutical companies such as Regeneron, Pfizer, and Aldatu Biosciences or at academic institutions, including Rockefeller, Yale, Stanford, Stony Brook, Sloan Kettering, Cold Spring Harbor and others. 10% of the BCB MS graduates  went on to MD/DDS/DO schools.  The BCB MS students also were academically competitive within their graduate cohorts, including 1st year Ph.D. students, with 93% earning a B or better in graduate biochemistry, genetics, and cell biology courses.
