Information for Prospective Political Science Majors and Minors
Admissions
The political science major and minor are unrestricted and can be declared during any program declaration period. Please refer to Stony Brook University's Undergraduate Admissions page for information about undergraduate applications.
Program Details and Courses
The objective of the political science major and minor is to give the student a general introduction to all the major subfields of the discipline and an in-depth exposure to one or two of them. Students study not only the major literature of the subfield but also learn research methods and become familiar with ongoing research. Internships in Long Island, Albany, and Washington offer selected students the opportunity to gain practical experience.
Please refer to the most recent edition of the Undergraduate Catalog for more information on the structure of the major, minor, and descriptions of the courses within the program.
