My name is Victor Wang and I will be entering the 12th grade at Great Neck
South High School this fall. Honestly speaking, I am very excited to be a
senior and I know I am going to have a lot of fun these next few
months. I
am well aware of the increased work-load that comes with being a senior
but I am certain that the next year will also be a very memorable one.
Ever since I was little, I've always enjoyed my science classes. However,
it wasn't until my sophomore year when I found my niche in the world of
physics. I think it is very cool, for lack of a better word, that the
physical world can be described with a seemingly never-ending series of
mathematical formulas and equations. Last summer, I was fortunate enough
to have been able to do research at the Garcia Center, a polymer lab
located in
the Old Engineering Building, also at Stony Brook University. My project
there, however, constituted mainly of qualitative analyses and
while I thought it was really neat to be able to apply the
knowledge I learned in the classroom in an actual lab
setting, I was slightly disappointed in the more limited amount of
mathematical
applications. I am especially looking forward to working in the Laser
Teaching
Center this summer to perhaps expand my knowledge, explore my interests,
and possibly engage in a different, more exciting type of research.
