I was born on April 27, 1988 on Long Island. I was raised in Hampton Bays and have enjoyed living there. I was an only child until, when I was fifteen, my parents adopted a baby girl from China. The most memorable experience of my life was going to China to adopt my little sister. It was a really eye opening experience to see how another culture lived. In addition, it is amazing to have a little sister, and I miss her greatly when I am away. In addition, when I was ten, my house was struck by lightning. I was watching the thunderstorm out of my living room window when lightning struck my front porch. In the end, it destroyed half of our porch and the electric surge it cause ruined our television, fish tank filter, and many other appliances. It was a very scary experience, but it also introduced me to the power of nature and the sciences behind them. I have always loved Science and Math. Ever since I was 10, I have taken several trips to Liberty Science Center in New Jersey that have furthered my interests. I'm not really sure where my Science and Math gene came from since my Dad is an Attorney and my Mom is a Mental Health Counselor. My first true interest in the sciences began in eighth grade, where I won Best in Show at my Elementary School's science fair for my project on plastics. Later that year, at Charminde High School's finalist science fair I won first place with that same project. Through doing research on plastics for my project, I became very interested in plastics and polymers. That's why I decided to major in Chemical and Molecular Engineering here at Stony Brook. Physics and Chemistry were my favorite subjects in high school. I had the greatest AP Physics teacher there who opened my eyes to how amazing Physics is. Light itself has so many unique properties, so I am very excited to research it. Aside from the sciences, I was really active in community service in high school. I was a Girl Scout for thirteen years, and also involved in Key Club and Big Brothers/Big Sisters. I also really enjoyed writing for my school newspaper and became editor in chief in my senior year. I also graduated Hampton Bays High School as valedictorian. In my spare time, I love to read, travel and travel. My favorite books include The Da Vinci Code, Angels and Demons, and 1984. In the future, I hope to work with polymers and to make some exciting new discoveries.
