Located in the lower level of the Student Union, come check out the variety of entertainment options from classic board games, pool tables, arcade basketball and video games! The space is also the host to special tournaments and game nights throughout the year. The Club Hub is open to all students Tuesday through Saturday from 3pm to 11pm.

Commuter Lounge

Come by to relax and connect at the recently renovated Commuter Lounge: “The Pit Stop”! A lounge fully equipped with furniture to help you destress, study, or catch up with friends. The Pit Stop is located on the first floor of the Melville Library and gives students access to storage lockers, vending machines, TV screens and more. Come “park” yourself at The Pit Stop!

Graduate Student Lounge

Calling all Graduate Students! Check out this space created just for you. Located on the first floor of the Student Activities Center, this newly renovated lounge provides you with plenty of room to get your work done, relax in between classes, and even meet your fellow graduate students.

Veteran Student Lounge

Hey student veterans!  Did you know you have your own lounge and workspace?

It’s located on the 2nd floor of the Student Activities Center. The lounge is furnished with a kitchenette, personal lockers, TV and desktop computers, allowing student veterans to relax, study and socialize in the comfort and convenience of this fully equipped lounge located in the heart of campus.

The Loft and The Shore Club

Previously known as SAC 221 and SAC 169, both rooms have undergone extensive renovations and updates that the campus community can enjoy! Both spaces are now open for campus departments and organizations to make reservations for these spaces.

Career Center Studio

Located in Melville Library at the bottom of the Zebra Path, the Career Center Studio is a place to "design your life" and prepare for your future career and/or other professional opportunities. During operating hours from 9 am to 5 pm, students can visit the studio for drop-in appointments with a Career Coach to go over their resumes and/or cover letters, gain helpful insights and tips, and more. The studio is a great space to take time to focus and plan for what comes after graduation.

Places to Study:

Melville Library

The Frank Melville Jr. Memorial Library is the main library at Stony Brook University and one of the best study spots for all Seawolves. If you need a place to work with no distractions, you can use the library’s quiet sections or rent a free private study room for group meetings or study sessions. The library provides access to over 2 million volumes and hundreds of databases as well as computers and printers. Their open stacks policy allows browsing and on-site use of physical resources.

Humanities Atrium

The beautiful atrium located in the main lobby of the Humanities Building is an amazing study spot for those working during the day. There are many tables and chairs under the windowed ceiling which provides plenty of light for students. While in the Humanities Building there is also space to study in the first-floor study room and the second floor lobby, outside of the Writing Center.

Social Sciences Building

There is ample study space within the Social and Behavioral Sciences building. If you like to study while sitting comfortably on a couch, then this spot is for you. The building is not in the main Academic Mall, so it is rarely overcrowded.

Roth Cafe

This is a great study spot with a nice view of Roth Pond and a few lounge areas that can be used for studying. Although an informal study spot, Roth proves to be one of the best locations to get work done. With Starbucks and a dining location just a few steps away, you will be able to study here for hours.

SoMAS Library

If you enjoy studying in a library but find the Melville library too crowded, the stacks in the School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences located on South Campus are a great alternative to go. The change of scenery from the main library can also be helpful when looking for motivation.

Music Library

SBU’s Music Library, located on the first floor of the Melville Library has open stacks with collections that cover a vast array of sectors in the field of music. The Music Library is visited daily by students who need to check out printed materials or to complete course listening assignments which are placed on reserve. There is a quiet study section, periodicals area, a listening area, and Mac mini computers for students to use.
