Shikaripur N. Sridhar is an expert on the languages and cultures of India and South Asia, and has done pioneering research on the structural, sociolinguistic and psycholinguistic aspects of bilingualism and language interaction in individuals and society. Additional areas of his research include the switching and mixing of languages, the acquisition and use of English as a second language in multilingual countries communities, and the nature and functions of new varieties of the language, such as Indian English.
