Biography
Katheryn Twiss’ research focuses on social and economic practices in prehistoric and early historic societies. She uses animal remains to discover past food production and consumption strategies, environmental adaptations, and social and ritual traditions. She has written on ancient food practices, the origins of animal domestication, the cultural implications of different animal management strategies, and the integration of wild and domestic resources. She previously co-led animal bone analysis at Neolithic Çatalhöyük in Turkey, and is now conducting research on the famed Mesopotamian site of Ur (Iraq).
