Biography
Gordon Taylor is a microbial oceanographer studying the involvement of microorganisms (bacteria, protozoans, algae and viruses) in the ocean’s carbon cycle, food web relationships among microorganisms, and tthe ecology of oxygen-depleted marine systems. His current research focuses on microbiological and chemical exchange processes across boundaries, and novel microbial metabolisms. To reach their goals, his group has been developing state-of-the-art bioimaging technologies to document elemental transfers from the environment to consumers, and to their predators, symbiotic partners, and viral pathogens. His research sheds light on responses of the oceans’ carbon cycle and ecosystem function to oxygen stress and global climate change.
