Biography

 Musa al-Gharbi is a sociologist and communication researcher in the School of Communication and Journalism at Stony Brook University and a research fellow at Heterodox Academy. His research explores how we think about, talk about, and produce shared knowledge about social phenomena including race, inequality, social movements, extremism, policing, national security, foreign policy and domestic U.S. political contests. His work has been published in the New York Times, Washington Post, CNN, The Atlantic, New Republic, The Nation, The Guardian and many other outlets. He is regularly tapped by media organizations to contextualize current events, including spots with NPR, Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, USA Today, Voice of America, Slate and beyond. His first book, We Have Never Been Woke: Social Justice Discourse, Inequality and the Rise of a New Elite is forthcoming with Princeton University Press.
