"This scholarship was a way for me to live my dream of studying in one of the best institutions and is a step towards achieving my aspired career. My favorite part about studying at Stony Brook would be how welcoming the community is, especially for international students as we are away from our home."

"The diversity and inclusivity at Stony Brook is commendable. YAWH offered a great opportunity for me to be more financially independent"

Priyanka

Priyanka Mukherjee,
2021 YAWH Scholar from India

" I love how the campus is an incredibly diverse environment and I get to meet so many different kinds of people everyday that inspire and motivate me! Being an international student can be hard as there are high chances to feel homesick and cut off from the people surrounding them. Fortunately, I personally have never experienced this as I was made to feel welcome by each and every member of the faculty since the very first day! I could very easily call SBU my second home. I really admire the psychology department as well and I am so glad that I will get to spend my next four years being a Seawolf!"

HOW WE SUPPORT INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

A wide network of resources help our international students feel right at home from the very start.

As a new student, you'll be supported by the International Student Ambassadors, be able join our International Student Organization (ISO), and make new friends at iCafé, our bi-weekly academic and student services workshop.

Our academic advisors are supportive. They might do everything from helping you devise your first-semester schedule to recommending student resources, such as the writing center and tutoring centers.

Our Office of Global Affairs provides visa and immigration support, and hosts a global forum series on topics such as intercultural communication.
