Our Mission

The Division of Student Affairs Fellowship is a pathways program designed to provide a guided internship, mentorship, and networking opportunities for undergraduates interested in pursuing a career in higher education and student affairs. Eligible students from historically underrepresented and marginalized groups are encouraged to apply.

The Benefits

This Fellowship will be a fully immersive experience. We will match each student with a mentor in our division who will oversee their EXT 488 internship. This paid internship experience provides the opportunity to integrate theory and practice and become familiar with several functional areas in higher education and student affairs. Each Student will also participate in bi-weekly Fellowship group meetings that will include presentations from guest speakers and panels, reflections on the internship, and assistance with their Master of Arts, Higher Education Administration degree (HEA) application.

At A Glance

The Division of Student Affairs will interview applicants and select a minimum of 5 juniors to begin the Fellowship in the Fall Semester of their senior year.

At the start of the Fall semester, each senior will enroll in the EXT 488 Externship: Applied Learning for Career Readiness II course and complete a paid internship. The following Spring semester, the student will continue in the EXT 488 paid internship course. The internship includes participation in Higher Education conferences such as the Long Island College Student Personnel Association (LICSPA) and the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) as time and resources permit. In addition, students will be able to work within and pilot different departments in our division over the course of the Fall and Spring semesters. Some departments are, but are not limited to:

  • Student Affairs Central Administration
  • Division of Campus Residences
  • Career Center
  • Office of Student Life
  • Student Health, Wellness, and Prevention Services
