How to Meditate?
The instructions are simple! Each person's meditation practice is unique to them. Here we can provide an environment for you to explore what meditation is for you!
- Find a comfortable seat. You can sit cross-legged on the cushions provided or in a chair with your feet flat on the ground. Try to sit upright and alert, but not rigid in any way.
- You can gaze gently down at the floor in front of you or close your eyes. Your hands can be placed palms-down on your thighs or rest on top of each other in your lap.
- Begin to notice your breath. Place your attention on the rise of your diaphragm as you inhale and how it falls as you exhale. Focusing on your breath is really the only instruction! While it may be a simple instruction, it is not always easy.
- As your mind wanders, gently notice it and bring your attention back to the rise and fall of each breath. There is no need to judge yourself or feel you are failing as your mind wanders, just be mindful of noticing when it happens. The beauty of meditation is the ability to begin again, over and over, coming back to one breath at a time.
