Biography:

In Otter's time at Stony Brook, they plan to study the behavior of animals, and the evolution and ecology behind it. In Otter's free time, they like to do arts and crafts, write, and play video games! Before becoming a Simons STEM Scholars, Otter participated in a summer research program on Animal Behavior at the Stanley Manne Research Institute.

Leading the Future:

"The divide between academia and the general public is an issue with serious, wide-ranging consequences. I aim to mend this in my scientific career, and will make research accessible, understandable, and fun to everyone, regardless of education, background, and/or status."

Why did you become a Simons STEM Scholar?:

"I loved the constant support that the program advertised, both academic and personal, and I have found true community in this close-knit cohort." 

What would you say to someone who is applying?:

"Don't flatten or sanitize your personality- your unique perspective and scientific interests have just as much value as your academic achievements."
