Biography:

In Marlene's time at Stony Brook they plan on studying genetics and cell biology. In Marlene's free time they like to workout, dance, and edit videos.

Leading the Future:

"I envision myself leading the future of STEM by not only bringing diversity to the field, but also by protecting the diversity. Diversity is what leads to greater progress, so it is important to strengthen and support it."

Why did you become a Simons STEM Scholar?:

"I chose to become a Simons STEM Scholar due to the opportunities and aid the program gives as well as the program's values. With the program's strong community it helps scholars manage the challenges of college." 

What would you say to someone who is applying?:

"I encourage all who are thinking about applying to the Simons STEM Scholars program to apply. It's important to remember that flight comes with turbulence. Yes, college is difficult and yes, there will be some failures along the way. However, by applying to the Simons STEM Scholars program you will receive a type of support and community which is hard to find elsewhere, allowing you to handle the turbulence. "
