Biography:

In Nicole's time at Stony Brook they plan to study cellular and molecular biology in flies, plants and model organisms of the like! In their free time, Nicole likes to learn about animals, watch anime or superhero movies, and exercise (weightlifting and playing softball are my favorite!). Before becoming a Simons STEM Scholar, Nicole participated in the HYPOTHEKids Bioforce Program where I studied the 'Histologic Analysis of Ex-vivo Porcine Pulmonary Valve Microarchitecture' under Elizabeth Cordoves in Gordana Vunjak-Novakovic's lab at Columbia University.

Leading the Future:

"I envision leading the future of STEM through education. I hope to help communities by ensuring access to basic necessities and resources to succeed."

Why did you become a Simons STEM Scholar?:

"I chose to become a Simons STEM Scholar because I felt the community was a place I could call home and feel supported in the pursuit of my goals."

What would you say to someone who is applying?:

"If you are interested in science, motivated to achieve your dreams and want to be surrounded around likeminded people, the you should apply. (Extra credit for those who have other nerdy hobbies or interesting pastimes!)"
