The workshops will focus on two types of extramural funding pursuits:
Writing Winning NIH Proposals
- Tuesday, May 27, 2025 from 9 am to 12:30 pm
- Wednesday, May 28, 2025 from 9 am to 12:30 pm
Writing NIH Renewals and Resubmissions
- Thursday, May 29, 2025 from 9 am to 12:30 pm
These highly acclaimed workshops cover both practical and conceptual aspects crucial to the proposal-writing process for submission to all NIH institutes and mechanisms. They focus on idea development, choosing the right institute, writing the proposal for reviewers, planning data management and sharing, and providing valuable tips and strategies for effectively presenting an applicant’s case. Dr. Robertson will explain the NIH’s review criteria and process.
Participants are taught to write with a logical progression of ideas, guiding reviewers through their applications. It is emphasized that applicants are writing for two distinct audiences: the assigned reviewers who have read the application in its entirety, and non-assigned reviewers who may have read only a portion of the proposal before the study section meeting. Strategies, tools, and tips designed to earn a fundable priority score are highlighted.
The half-day NIH Renewal and Resubmission workshop will provide participants with strategies to enhance their chances of success when resubmitting an application. The workshop will delve into NIH’s resubmission policy and address common reasons for resubmission success or failure, as well as common mistakes to avoid. Additionally, participants will learn how to seek and effectively utilize input from the Program Officer and Scientific Review Officer in addressing the criticism received during the resubmission process.
