IMPORTANT REMINDERS

SUBJECT(S):  Important Vaccine Mandate Update for State Employees.

DATE:  09/24/2021

AUDIENCE: West Campus State Employees

We have just learned the following, from the Office of the Chancellor:

Personnel who fail to provide evidence of their first dose of the vaccine by September 27, 2021, or have not received an approved exemption, will be suspended without pay beginning on or after Tuesday, September 28, pending termination by the applicable separation process. Employees may use time off benefits as prescribed by their union contracts while on suspension.

Those with currently pending exemption requests will be placed on leave without pay, pending a determination on their request. These employees may also use time off benefits as prescribed by their union contracts.

We understand the impact the mandate will have on staffing and plans are in place to address any staffing shortages.

As a reminder, the order broadly defines “personnel” as “all persons employed or affiliated with a covered entity, whether paid or unpaid, including, but not limited to, employees, members of the medical and nursing staff, contract staff, students, and volunteers, who engage in activities such that if they were infected with COVID-19, they could potentially expose patients, residents, or personnel working for such entity to the disease.”
