This specialization is tailored towards people who are pursuing a BS in Biology and are intersted in minoring in Environmental Biology. The field of Environmental Biology focuses on interactions between organisms and their surrounding environment, including impacts of human actions on natural ecosystems. The Environmental Biology specialization of the Biology major provides a strong scientific background for students preparing for careers in fields such as conservation biology, natural resource management, and environmental education. Many students are admitted to graduate schools to gain additional skills and experience of careers in organizations, and academic institutions. Students who are admitted to this program attain special features and oppurtunities such as hands-on research in fieldwork in Long Island, interactions with the New York Climate Exchange, study abroad in Kenya and Madagascar, and participation in SBU's Collaborative for the Earth.
