Joy Janzen

Lecturer, Literacy Development

Joy Janzen teaches courses in literacy and language development for D-TALE. Her research interests include second language reading, academic literacy, and teacher education. She has published in Review of Educational Research, TESOL Journal, TESOL Quarterly, Reading in a Foreign Language, and Reading Psychology, as well as in edited volumes on professional development and teacher research. Prior to working at Stony Brook, she taught at Minnesota State University Moorhead, where she was the director of the ESL licensure program.

Before getting her doctorate in applied linguistics at Northern Arizona University, she was a Fulbright scholar in the Czech Republic, a teacher education fellow for the U.S. Information Agency in Russia and Romania, and a teacher of English in the People's Republic of China.
