Organic Chemistry

Organic chemistry research at Stony Brook is highly interdisciplinary and spans synthetic, physical organic, medicinal and bioorganic chemistry, organometallics, catalysis, and polymer chemistry. Our wide-ranging research interests include development of new reaction methodologies and catalysts, syntheses of natural and unnatural compounds of special interest in medicinal chemistry, structure-activity relationship of pharmaceuticals (e.g. anticancer and anti-microbial agents), and preparation of organic materials with designed structure or properties. Underpinning these research interests is a strong commitment to harnessing the unique power of organic synthesis to push the boundaries of what is molecularly possible.
