The Ookami Cray/HPE Apollo80 testbed, which consists of Fujitsu A64FX processors, is now in its third year of operation. It has recently joined ACCESS as a resource provider. ACCESS is an advanced computing and data resource supported by the National Science Foundation. Through Ookami's role as a resource provider, it is available to the national computational research community and particularly useful for scientists who require access to high performance computing (HPC) resources that excel with memory-intensive applications.

The Ookami project team works closely with the user community to port and optimize their applications for the unique architecture of the Fujitsu A64FX processors. There are multiple support mechanisms in place such as webinars, a slack channel, a ticketing system, extensive online resources, and virtual office hours, providing users with the opportunity to work directly with experts and do live debugging sessions. These support mechanisms enable researchers to leverage Ookami’s key features, such as high performance and low power consumption, for their own applications.

Dr. Eva Siegmann joined the IACS team in January 2021 and is a specialist in scientific computing with a strong background in simulations.  “Ookami allows researchers to enhance their applications for cutting-edge computing technologies,” she says. “Its key features, performance and power efficiency, are readily available for users.'”

To further enhance the project's broader impact, there are regular courses for high school students introducing them to HPC. During the two-day courses, students learn everything around HPC including theory, real-world applications, visiting a real HPC cluster, and learning how to use it. Through special guest accounts, students get the unique opportunity to use this one-of-a-kind cluster and take their first steps in world high performance computing.

UPCOMING: PEARC'23, JULY 23-27TH, 2023:

We will attend the PEARC'23 conference in Portland Oregon. Meet us at (times and rooms not yet available):
