LINCOLNSHIRE, Ill. – July 18, 2023 – Zebra Technologies Corporation (NASDAQ: ZBRA), a leading digital solution provider enabling businesses to intelligently connect data, assets, and people, has been recognized by Stony Brook University (SBU) for its engagement and commitment to SBU’s Diversity Professional Leadership Network (DPLN) program. Stony Brook named Zebra this year’s Employer Partner of the Year, and Scott Froehlich, Zebra’s Senior Director of Operations, as Diversity Champion.
The Career Center at Stony Brook oversees the DPLN program and collaborates with numerous industry partners to provide students with a mentor, prepare them for life after college and offer practical career guidance and leadership training. The program is a year-long credit bearing externship opportunity designed for traditionally underrepresented minority students, serving as a pipeline for them to secure an internship, full-time job, or prepare for graduate school. It also connects students with organizations like Zebra — and people like Froehlich — committed to diversity recruitment.
“Zebra Technologies is absolutely our Employer of the Year,” said Kimberly Dixon, Director of Employer Engagement & Diversity Recruitment Career Center, Stony Brook University. “Zebra team members have come to every event, participating in recruitment events and career prep. It is clear to us that Stony Brook is a place where Zebra sees value. They are committed to giving their time to help our students get ready for every aspect of the world of work—it’s where they shine.”
Froehlich, who is a Stony Brook alum, leads a team of Zebra employees active in numerous DPLN activities, serving as mentors, working with diverse Stony Brook students and sponsoring underrepresented talent. A number of Stony Brook graduates from the DPLN program started careers with Zebra. Dixon said Froehlich’s efforts have made him a “champion for diversity, a champion for Stony Brook’s underrepresented students, a champion for women in technology and engineering. And it matters.”
As an organization, Zebra prioritizes inclusion and diversity and provides opportunities for all employees to channel their skills toward causes that they — and the Zebra community — care about to positively impact their communities for the long term. To further its commitment, Zebra invests in key activities, people and programs to create a culture where all employees feel seen, heard, valued and respected.
“It’s such an honor to be named Diversity Champion,” said Froehlich. “It’s been a great experience mentoring students who haven’t been in a corporate environment. It’s mutually beneficial and personally rewarding, not only for the advancement of inclusion and diversity, but also to have the opportunity through Zebra to do something unique and special for diverse students.”
