Various health organizations across the United States recognize the bias in the industry and are take meaningful action against it. Ranging from trainings for recognizing bias to pushing to incorporate more underrepresented groups in their respective fields, these organizations are taking an active stance against bias. 

 

New reports finds wide pay disparity for physicians by gender, race, and ethnicity

The analysis, based on the AAMC’s annual Faculty Salary Survey, also found that while gender was the primary factor driving pay inequities, Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) faculty also experienced compensation inequities — even in departments and specialties with the most diverse faculty.

AAMC launches center to tackle health inequities

In a wide-reaching effort to address these inequities, the AAMC (Association of American Medical Colleges) has created the AAMC Center for Health Justice. The center, which launched on Sept. 21, is part of the association’s strategic plan to improve the health of people everywhere.

Report urges major reforms in the transition to residency

On Aug. 26, the Coalition for Physician Accountability — the organization that brings together all the major players in the transition to residency process, including the AAMC, the National Resident Matching Program®, the American Osteopathic Association, and the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates — released 34 recommendations that some hope will shake up the entire process.
