Gagan is a former senior finance and strategic planning executive (1997-2016) who worked at W. P. Carey, Inc., a top 25 MSCI US REIT with $20 billion total enterprise value (TEV), where he was involved in closing several M&A deals including roll-ups, and liquidation events for non-traded real estate investment trusts (CPA programs) and helped grow the firm. His career highlights include working on consolidation and NYSE listing of CPA:1–9 as Carey Diversified LLC in 1998; its merger with W. P. Carey & Co. Inc. in 2000; W. P. Carey’s merger with CPA:15 and REIT conversion in 2012, as well as the company’s subsequent merger with CPA:16 which laid the foundation for the company to execute two more CPA mergers and become a top 25 REIT in market capitalization. Few of the job titles Gagan worked at W. P. Carey included Investment Analyst, Assistant Treasurer, Senior Vice President and Executive Director before he left the firm. Gagan holds an MBA from the Thunderbird School of Global Management at Arizona State University. At Thunderbird, he won an international scholarship award and was a research assistant at the Department of World Business.

Prior to joining Stony Brook University's College of Business, Gagan held the position of Adjunct Assistant Professor and Adjunct Lecturer at Long Island University (LIU Post) School of Business and CUNY’s Hostos Community College respectively. He has taught both undergraduate as well as graduate level courses in Finance. Gagan is passionate about teaching and strongly believes in sharing his experiences with students so that they can achieve better results. Gagan’s teaching philosophy is based on the belief that the only thing that is constant is change and teaches his students to embrace change, keep innovating, and continue to add value in any business environment.
