Yes. Students are expected to use the provided transportation to and from the trip unless approved otherwise by the trip chaperone.
Failure to follow transportation policies may result in suspension from future Beyond the Brook trips
Some trips allow independent return travel (such as leaving from the destination instead of taking the bus back).
If a trip permits this:
- You must communicate with the trip chaperone on the day of the trip
- You are still guaranteed transportation to and from the event
- Failure to notify a chaperone may result in suspension from future trips
You will typically acknowledge this policy during registration.
Where do buses leave from?
Departure details are included in your confirmation email and receipt.
For most trips, buses depart from the Stony Brook Union or nearby designated pickup areas.
Important: Buses leave on time and may depart with or without you, so arrive early
Plan to arrive 15–30 minutes before departure time to check in.
For example, if the bus departs at 10:00 AM, students may be asked to arrive by 9:30 AM.
Always bring:
- Your Stony Brook ID
- Any trip-specific items (listed in your receipt/email)
- A charged phone
Depending on the trip, you may also need items like:
- Comfortable walking shoes
- Spending money for lockers, food, or extras not included
Some trips include food, and some do not.
Check the trip description carefully. If food is included, it will be listed in the event details and confirmation receipt
No.
All Beyond the Brook tickets are non-transferable and non-refundable.
Failure to attend after registering may result in suspension from future off-campus trips.
If you miss the bus:
- No refunds will be issued
- You may lose your spot on the trip
Please plan ahead and arrive early.
Yes! For many trips, students are added to a group chat (such as Google Chat) a few days before departure to receive updates and communicate with chaperones.
Be sure to keep an eye on your email.
Before the day of the trip: Message the chaperone or email the team at BeyondTheBrook@stonybrook.edu as soon as possible so we can offer your spot to a student on the waitlist.
On the day of the trip: You must call or text the trip chaperone directly to notify them.
No Show Policy: Failure to communicate your absence (no-showing) multiple times will result in a suspension from future trips.
Please note these trips are very popular, so we ask that you communicate any change in plans as soon as possible so we may offer an opportunity to another student.
