Scott Perl ’08, PhD

Research Scientist, NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory

  • Co-Principal Investigator of the JPL Origins and Habitability Lab, leading investigations to measure habitability on rocky planets and icy moons in the solar system alongside life detection instrument and research
  • Was the Investigation Scientist for the CRISM spectrometer onboard the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) for 7 years
  • Worked on the 2012 Mars Science Laboratory mission (Curiosity) at NASA
  • First student collaborator on the 2004 Mars Exploration Rover mission (Opportunity) at SBU. Later earned his Ph.D. in geobiology from the University of Southern California
