Clarifying Immigration Registration Requirements
Posted March 12, 2025On January 20, 2025, President Donald Trump issued Executive Order 14159 which introduces changes to U.S. immigration enforcement policies.
As part of this order, updated registration requirements for certain nonimmigrants, including individuals in F and J status, will take effect on April 11, 2025.
What Is Changing?
Beginning April 11, 2025, USCIS U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) will implement a new alien registration process for certain foreign nationals who remain in the United States for 30 days or longer.
Who Is Affected?
This requirement primarily applies to:
- Dependents in F-2, J-2, H-4, and O-3 status
- Individuals who entered the U.S. before age 14
Who Is Already Registered?
Most nonimmigrants who entered the United States at age 14 or older are already registered and do not need to take further action.
Registration is typically confirmed by your Form I-94 (Arrival/Departure Record)
