Accessing Previously Issued Documents

Visa and Immigration Services (VIS) keeps international student and scholar records as required by federal and state regulations and Stony Brook University record-retention policies. Records are typically kept for three years after the end of your program.

You should also keep your own paper and digital copies of all documents related to your immigration history.

Accessing Documents in accessVIS

Many documents issued electronically after 2020 (or after 2023 for J-1 students and scholars) are available in your accessVIS portal.

To find your documents:

  1. Log in to accessVIS.
  2. Go to the accessVIS landing page.
  3. Select the Documents icon in the top-right corner.

Requesting Copies of Older Documents

If you do not see all of your previously issued Form I-20 or Form DS-2019, or if you need another document, you can request a copy from VIS.

Submit the Request for Document Copies e-form in accessVIS.

Please allow 5–7 business days for processing.
