Travel Within the United States
If you plan to travel within the United States during your J-1 program, you may do
so. Domestic travel does not require advance approval from Visa and Immigration Services
(VIS). However, you are responsible for carrying the proper documents and maintaining
your J-1 status at all times.
What You Should Carry
When traveling within the United States, it's recommended that you carry the following documents:

Your valid passport

Your most recent Form DS-2019

Your I-94 record (electronic or printed copy)

Proof of current J-1 program participation (such as an appointment letter or recent pay statement)
You do not need a valid visa stamp for domestic travel.
If Your Documents Are Lost or Stolen
If your documents are lost or stolen while traveling:

Contact your country’s embassy or consulate to replace your passport

Contact VIS as soon as possible for guidance

Request a replacement DS-2019 if needed
