SBU Fees for OPT and STEM OPT
When you apply for I-20s recommending Post-Completion OPT and STEM OPT Extension, you will be charged an International Student Fee through SOLAR. This is a SUNY-approved fee that supports the administrative processing of your request.
Post-Completion OPT Fee
If you request an I-20 recommending Post-Completion OPT, you will be charged a $100 International Student Fee.
STEM OPT Extension Fee
If you request an I-20 recommending the 24-month STEM OPT Extension, you will be charged a $200 International Student Fee.
What This Fee Covers
This fee is charged when your I-20 recommending Post-Completion OPT and/or STEM OPT Extension is issued. It supports services such as:
- Reviewing your eligibility
- Processing your request and issuing your I-20
- Maintaining your SEVIS record
- Providing advising and compliance support during your authorization period
- Reporting your employment and participation during your authorization period
You are charged this fee based on the issuance of your I-20, even if you later decide not to apply for or use the authorization.
Payment and Important Notes
- The fee is billed through SOLAR
- You will be notified via email when the fee is posted on your account
- Fees are not posted automatically, so you could receive notification up to 4 months after you initially request an OPT or STEM OPT I-20
- You have access to SOLAR after graduation, and after your NetID expires. Review DoIT's troubleshooting tips for logging into SOLAR if you have issues.
- You must pay the fee on time. Failure to pay may result in the Bursar referring your account to a collection agency.
