Admission to the WISE Honors Program is part of the general Stony Brook University application. Applicants must apply as a STEM major and indicate their interest in WISE and may need to submit additional materials, such as a personal statement or supplemental application, focusing on their STEM interests and leadership potential.

WISE students have access to dedicated academic advisors who specialize in supporting women in STEM. Advisors help students plan their coursework, explore research opportunities, and navigate challenges.

WISE students have access to a variety of exclusive research opportunities that foster hands-on learning and professional growth. Through faculty mentorship, on-campus research labs, and partnerships with leading STEM industries, students are encouraged to begin research as early as their first year.

Students can present their research at Stony Brook’s Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities (URECA) Symposium, as well as the WISE Senior Thesis Project & Research Symposium, showcasing their work to the university and broader academic communities.

Additionally, WISE collaborates with prominent organizations like Brookhaven National Laboratory, offering students access to state-of-the-art facilities and groundbreaking projects in STEM fields. These partnerships provide unique opportunities to work alongside leading scientists and contribute to impactful research.

These experiences prepare WISE students for advanced study, competitive internships, and successful careers in STEM.

Transfer students may be eligible to apply to WISE on a case-by-case basis. Interested students should contact the WISE office for more information about the application process and requirements.

No, students can only enroll in one University Honors Program, such as WISE, University Scholars, or the Honors College. Each program offers a distinct experience tailored to specific academic and personal interests.

Participation in the WISE Honors Program does not directly impact financial aid. However, many WISE students receive merit-based scholarships through the Office of Financial Aid based on academic performance and qualifications.
